INDIVIDUAL DENTAL COVERAGE

Thank you for considering Insurance Brokerage Service for a dental insurance quote. We represent several companies offering individual dental coverage and will be happy to search them to find the best rate for you. We do not offer all types of plans in all states. In some states we have only discount plans available. If you request a plan for a state in which we do not write we will forward your request to an agent writing such coverage in your state if we know of one.

In the individual dental marketplace there are three basic types of plans available--plans offering pre-negotiated discounts at participating dentists (DISCOUNT PLANS); plans offering pre- negotiated co-pays at participating dentists (DHMO or PRE-PAID PLANS) and plans paying a certain percentage (50% to 100%) of charges any dentist you choose to use makes (FULLY INSURED PLANS). There are advantages and disadvantages to each which we will briefly outline.

DISCOUNT PLANS

Discount plans are exactly what the name implies--if you participate in the plan you can choose to go to a participating dentist who has agreed to offer you a discount (typically from 10% to 40%) off of their regular rates. As individual dentists have different rates to begin with, all you are guaranteed is a certain percentage off of their regular rates. The advantages of this type of plan are that they are the least expensive to buy and there are no waiting periods or pre-existing conditions. The chief disadvantage is you are limited in your choice of dentist (in most urban areas you will find a fair number of dentists participating in these plans, but in more rural areas you might not have a dentist available) and unless you do price shopping ahead of time it is difficult to know what you will actually be charged for each procedure since you are only guaranteed a discount off of the regular rates the dentist charges. If you want to consider one of these plans we will direct you to a website with a current list of dentists in your general geographic area.

PRE-PAID PLANS

Pre-Paid Plans featuring pre-negotiated discounts reflected in co-pays you make for each procedure are attractive because their rates are less expensive than fully insured plans (though slightly higher than discount plans); they feature no waiting periods and they automatically cover a wide range of dental services, including what most plans consider Major Services--endodontics, periodontics, etc., and unlike Discount Plans, since each participating dentist has agreed to accept a co-pay spelled out in your policy, you can know exactly what your costs for any given procedure will be.Their disadvantages are that to receive benefits you must go to one of their participating dentists and, while many Major Services are covered with no waiting period, your cost for these services often are higher than under a fully insured plan whose waiting period has been satisfied. Like Discount Plans above, in most urban areas you will find a fair number of dentists participating in these plans, but in more rural areas you might not have a dentist available without traveling a considerable distance. If you want to consider one of these plans we will direct you to a website with a current list of dentists in your general geographic area.

FULLY INSURED PLANS

Fully insured plans generally offer the advantage of better benefits and the free choice of dentist to use. Their disadvantages are that their rates are higher and for many benefits waiting periods of 6- to 18-months are not uncommon before certain benefits can be received.

We will offer you choices from all types of plans we have available in your area.
